On 15 November 2018, the Government of Indonesia’s Ministry of Home of Affairs signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Islamic Relief Indonesia.

A Cooperative Agreement on the Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation Programme was signed for the period of 15 November 2018 to 15 November 2021.

The agreement covers seven areas of intervention:

  • disaster risk management,
  • education,
  • health and nutrition,
  • child welfare,
  • food security,
  • sustainable livelihoods,
  • climate change mitigation and adaptation.


The Head of Cooperation Facilitation Center, Dr Nelson Simanjuntak, represented the  Ministry of Home Affairs, and Nanang S Dirja (Country Director) represented Islamic Relief Idonesia during the ceremony.

Ateeq Ul Rehman, (Regional Asia Desk Coordinator at Islamic Relief Worldwide), gave a speech during the ceremony. He reiterated the commitment of Islamic Relief Worlwide to be present on the ground within 72 hours in any global disaster to provide humanitarian assistance and relieve suffering.
